Microwave Plasma Torch

The NanoMaterials Innovation Center has built a novel nanoparticle synthesis system incorporating the latest in microwave plasma torch design provided by Physical Sciences Incorporated coupled to a metered delivery sub-system which feeds a proprietary solution atomizing nozzle array. The microwave plasma torch which may operate using a variety of gases or mixture of gases is capable of pyrolyzing chemically prepared stoichiometric solutions to temperatures as high as 5000K. Controlled atmospheres and temperatures in the processing chamber yield dispersed nanoparticles ranging from 2 nm to 80 nm. This system is currently capable of producing up to 4 Kg of material per hour. Advanced designs are underway which will increase this output of this system to 24 Kg per hour.

  • 4 Kg/hour capacity; modifiable to reach 24 Kg/hour
  • Can manage basic or acidic solutions; sodium hydroxide, ammonium hydroxide or nitric acid
