Continuous Microwave Tunnel Kiln
The Syno-Therm AMPS pusher system is the first automated continuous microwave tunnel kiln in the Western Hemisphere. The Nanomaterials Innovation Center commissioned the custom design and installation of this continuous kiln to serve as both experimental test platform and pre-production scalability tool to meet the needs of industry for investigations into processing materials with the use of microwave energy. This unit boasts 30 KW of input power yielding 12 KW of continuous output power. It is capable of operation in air, nitrogen, inert gas, or mixed gases to a maximum temperature of 1500 °C. The AMPS continuous microwave kiln has already demonstrated its abilities to remove binders from ceramic bodies, calcined various raw materials, and sintered alumina in a fraction of the real times required for conventional processes.
